What are some of the most common benefits of nose surgery?
The procedure corrects several conditions where nose is reshaped by reducing or increasing the size, removing the hump, changing tip or bridge (nose lift) or narrowing span of nostrils or changing angle between nose and upper lip (alar trimming). Frontal and profile views of the nose are reshaped to complement other facial features. Nose surgery can also be performed to correct breathing problems caused by narrow or partially obstructed nostrils.
How long does the surgery take? How long does the result last?
Procedure takes about two hours but on rare occasions it may take longer. Results last permanently.
What type of anesthesia is applied? What can I expect after the surgery?
General or local anesthesia may be applied, with sedation. If the nose is being reduced in size a medicated gauze is used to pack the nose with the splint. Sometimes, the nose is supported by tapes only. Stitches are self absorbing and do not require removal. Temporary swelling, bruising around eyes, nose and headaches may be experienced for several weeks.
How long will recovery take?
Patient can go back to work after 3 to 5 days. More strenuous activities can be done after 2 to 3 weeks. Patient must avoid hitting the nose and sun exposure for 8 weeks.
