How does the procedure work?
A peroxide gel is applied on the teeth after which the laser is used to boost the whitening process. The laser activates the bleaching gel and initiates the chemical reaction that produces the whitening effect. The procedure takes about an hour.
Results vary from one patient to another. Stains that have built up over long periods of time which appear light brown or yellow are the stains which respond best to this treatment. Stains on teeth which are blue-gray to dark brown are the most resistant to bleaching peroxides because these stains are usually deeply embedded in the tooth structure. Stains of this darker type are usually formed due to the patient having medications such as tetracycline in their bloodstream while their teeth were developing, and can take three weeks to six months to be bleached out properly. How white it will get depends on the initial color of your teeth and the source of discoloration.
Are there any food that i should avoid after the procedure?
Patient should avoid foods that stain, coffee, tobacco, and red wine for a week. If possible, patient should minimize intake of such food substances for the longevity of the result. Brushing the teeth and flossing on a regular basis can maintain its whiteness.
How long do results last?
On the average, teeth bleaching lasts for 1-3 years. For a non tobacco user, or those who do not eat foods that normally stain the teeth, the result may last even longer.
