What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a unique and popular method of orthodontic treatment. It uses 3-D imaging technology to depict the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position from which a series of custom -made clear “aligners” are produced. Each “alinger” moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks, then replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved.
Advantages of INVISALIGN:
· Invisalign allows the doctor and patient to view his/her own virtual treatment plan even before the treatment starts—so they can see how straight their teeth will look when the treatment is complete.
· There are no brackets, wires, and elastics that can be seen. The Aligners (which are made of a special plastic) are almost invisible to the naked eye and thus, appropriate for those that do not want or cannot be seen wearing brackets and wires;
· There is no discomfort and inconvenience, unlike brackets and wires which can be uncomfortable and irritating to the patient’s cheeks and gums;
· Since the Invisalign Aligners are to be removed while eating, one can therefore eat any kind of food, including the hard or chewy foods that are not appropriate for those wearing the traditional brackets and wires.
· The patient does not have the tooth stains caused by bracket cement and/or plaque or calculus that occur on the teeth around the brackets.
· Tooth movement is gradual with use of the Aligners since each Aligner is to be worn roughly every 2 weeks only.
